Today is the day.

July 29, 2009

Later on today (well, tomorrow, but it’s technically today as I’m posting this after midnight!) this site will go “live” – in other words, I’ll be advertising it everywhere I can!  So, welcome!

The entry at the top is a sticky and will always be there, but this is a special message for those who have found this blog today.

To everyone reading, please feel free to spread this blog as far and wide as you like, in fact I would be very grateful!  This is the first (and possibly will be the only) time I have ever done anything for charity like this, so this is all new to me.

Secondly, please don’t feel you have to sponsor me right now if you’re considering it – especially as you have to pay the money up front.  It is fine to wait until whenever.  In fact you can send me a post-dated until after the marathon cheque if you prefer (see my about page for my email address for how to do this)  Having said that, obviously sponsoring me now looks good on the old JustGiving page, makes me feel more supported and you don’t have to worry about doing it later!

I need as much support as I can get.. not just the giving to charity, but mental support for the long training runs ahead.  So please stick around if you can (via RSS is one way – the link is at the bottom right of the site) by whatever means you like.  I will also be duplicating posts here on my Livejournal with a custom view if you are a friend over there – email me if you want to friend me over there if you’re not already.  I’ll try and make these entries as entertaining and interesting as I can and the more feedback I get, the better!

And finally, if you spot any glaring issues, or you really think I’ve gone too far with TMI or whatever, or something has upset you in some way please drop me an email and let me know so I can try and fix it.  Ugh, I’ve just discovered that it doesn’t look great in IE at all (I usually use Firefox) and the image captions are all messed up on some pages too with IE.  Joy!  So, I recommend Firefox to read this blog..

There is a veritable novel of backstory under the “Background” link to the right – it’s not been a conventional journey to having children for me so I hope it makes a more interesting read than you would expect should you be interested.  My story is precisely WHY I am supporting the charity I am supporting.  Goodness knows here in the UK the NHS is often not enough for those who lose their babies, and The Miscarriage Association also helps train the NHS to treat parents with a loss better too.

There are already a few conventional entries for July.. you may need to select “older entries” at the top or bottom of the screen.  Like all blogs, it’s in reverse date order.

Anyway, welcome to the blog and I hope you stick around, or at least pop in from time to time to say hello!

Welcome!

July 17, 2009

This blog contains the story of my attempts to go from what was left of my physical fitness after four months of pregnancy-induced strict bedrest and eight months of being a stay at home mother to taking part in the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday April 25th, 2010.

I am running to raise money for The Miscarriage Association, to try and help support those parents who do not get to bring their babies home when their pregnancy ends too soon.  This is the first time I have ever done anything of this nature for charity but I am so impressed by the work they do, it had to be this charity!

For more information on the whys and hows, please take a look at the About “Brave or Foolish” page.

Please consider sponsoring me. I need to raise a minimum of £1,300 for The Miscarriage Association in order to do my marathon attempt, and I have an extremely long way to go:

My JustGiving Sponsorship Page

On the pages of this blog, found under the “Background” section to the right, there is also considerable background information on me and my own miscarriages – I had two early pregnancy losses – and the support I had.. or didn’t have from medical staff along the way.

On a happier note, there’s also the full story of my against the odds miracle second child; having already had a bad pregnancy so far, a gut feeling led me to pay out for a scan at 18 weeks, which revealed a severely incompetent cervix and I had an emergency cervical stitch in surgery that evening. There were still no guarantees of success and I was told to expect a preemie, but she hung on throughout my four months of strict bedrest and came a month premature, thankfully perfectly healthy, following an emergency c-section in November 2008.

There is also information on The Miscarriage Association. The Miscarriage Association is a charity involved with a very taboo subject, and as a result does not generally get the support other charities get. It is also a small charity so any fundraising goes a long way. For information on how your donation will really help, please take a look at my “Information” page.

You can also sponsor me by cheque (post-dated if you prefer) – if you wish to do this, you can find my contact information on my About Me page in the links to the right.

Please feel free to follow this blog for yourself – there is an RSS feed linked at the bottom right.  And please link to it – the more exposure I get, the greater the money I can raise – I am usually happy to exchange links! There is also a Facebook fan page here which I will cross-post entries to.
