Disaster..

November 25, 2009

Well, it could be worse. This could have happened in April next year, or in the lead up.

But yes, it looks like I’ll be out of action for the next 2-3 weeks as a bare minimum.. that’s on top of the 3-4 weeks I’ve been out already.

My fevers weren’t abating and my cough was getting worse and worse so I went to see the doctor again on Monday who immediately referred me for a chest x-ray. Turns out I have a shadow on the lungs, which indicates an infection. I forgot to ask if this meant pneumonia, some people say it does, some say not necessarily. Anyway I am on my second type of antibiotics already in the vague hope of shifting this infection.

I need to go back just before Christmas for another chest x-ray to check it has cleared. If so, then I can start training. And it’ll have to be proper training.. with a schedule, for the marathon at that point.

On the plus side, I’ve lost 5lbs in the last month. I lost nothing whilst training! Interestingly though I don’t look any thinner, and I’ve lost a lot of muscle tone already. Just proves that fat was turning into muscle before.

I’ve yet to go out running in the dark..

In much happier news – a huge thank you to StrangeGlitter for her extremely generous sponsorship! Very, very kind of you!

Ill, Poorly, Sick, Unwell..

November 20, 2009

Ill, Poorly, Sick, Unwell.. You name it, I am. I don’t think I’ve done a proper run in nearly a month, not because I’ve been slacking off, but because I have genuinely been ill since then.

This sort of thing keeps on happening to me – I have a great immune system normally, then a nasty virus of some description gets under my skin and I can’t shake it off and I have low grade fevers and a cough. It’s happened twice before in the last few years. Add to that my neck is still sore and it hurts to turn my head and I am not 100% one bit.

There’s no way I’m even attempting training in this condition – after all, that 10K on Saturday made me so much worse and was horrible running it too.

As a result I am extremely frustrated – I would love to go out for a run.

In happier news, I’ve officially signed up to the London Marathon now! Not that there was any doubt over me running it, as it had all been agreed with the charity (Miscarriage Association) and CRunCH (Charity Runner’s Clearing House) waaay back in July. However they needed to pass my details onto the London Marathon itself, who then needed to contact me to find out my details and my expected time and all that jazz and get officially on their records so they can send me magazines or whatever.

So a few days ago they emailed me, and I’ve now filled in all my details and it’s all officially confirmed. Short of injury/sickness or an unfortunate encounter with a bus, I will be on the start line in a little over 5 months time up in Blackheath! And I still have to raise over £900 more.. eek.
